Paternity

Paternity is the legal process used to determine the biological father of a child. When a couple is not married, the court will not issue orders for child support, child custody, or visitation rights, until paternity has been established. A child born to a couple during their marriage gains certain legal rights. Paternity establishes the same rights for a child born to an unmarried couple:

  • Birth certificate containing his father’s name
  • Legal proof of identity of his parents
  • Financial benefits such as child support, Social Security benefits medical insurance and inheritance
  •  Knowledge of family medical history and hereditary health conditions

At Carmen M. Morales, P.A., we are sensitive to the issues at stake and strive to maintain your privacy while resolving paternity efficiently and effectively.
